The Statue Of Liberty Is 135 Years Old Today

The Statue Of Liberty is celebrating her 135th birthday today.

The copper statue was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States. It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886.

  • In an average year, the statue is hit by lightning 600 times.
  • It stands 305 feet above upper New York Bay
  • The crown’s spikes represent the oceans and continents
