A rare cotton-candy colored lobster has been caught off the coast in Maine, in an event that has a “1 in 100 million chance” of happening.
In a Facebook post, Get Maine Lobster, a seafood company, said Bill Coppersmith found the rare cotton candy lobster during a recent day of fishing. Called Haddie, the lobster’s purplish, blue-mottled coloring is incredibly rare.
“The odds of a cotton candy lobster being caught is one in 100m! Because of this, we want to preserve her,” the company said.
Luckily for the lobster, which was named Haddie in honor of Coppersmith's granddaughter, it won't be on anyone's dinner plate any time soon. The company said they will not cook or sell the lobster to anyone, but rather they will work with local marine organizations and aquariums to give it a permanent, safe home.
