Six years back, a grandma in Arizona went viral for accidentally inviting a stranger to her Thanksgiving dinner. Now, the viral text message-turned-heartwarming holiday tradition is being adapted as a movie for Netflix.
“The Thanksgiving Text” will retell the viral 2016 story, when Wanda Dench thought she was texting her grandson about coming over for Turkey Day. She had the wrong number, but high school senior Jamal Hinton was happy to accept her invitation anyway… and he’s attended her Thanksgiving dinner every year since.
“We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make,” Dench and Hinton say in a joint statement. “We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.”
