Dole has announced a recall involving their Dole-branded and private packaged salads due to possible listeria contamination. Recalled products include pre-made salad items that contain iceberg lettuce that was processed at the Soledad, California and Springfield, Ohio production facilities.
So far, it’s been confirmed that products from the Springfield facility were distributed to over two dozen states nationwide and another 36 from the Soledad facility were distributed to 30 states according to the current USDA recall notice.
Evidently, harvesting equipment was the culprit. Dole says that “consumers who still have any of these products in their refrigerators are urged not to consume the product and discard it immediately.”
The GREAT news? No illnesses have been reported as yet, but listeria contamination symptoms include severe headache, high fever, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea and can also cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems” and even miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. All products are now off of the shelves in stores, but double check your fridge to be safe.
