On Wednesday's episode of "Wheel of Fortune," contestant Chris Davidson had a very good chance of winning an $8,400 trip to Puerto Rico. He answered the puzzle in the Food & Drink category... and accidentally added an article to the phrase that wasn't part of the puzzle. He said "a frozen concoction" when the puzzle just red "frozen concoction."
Davidson did realize what he did right away and did repeat his answer without the a. But that was met with a "I'm sorry, we can't accept that" from Pat Sajak. The next contestant of course answered correctly... and got the free vacation.
Sajak did the reiterate why the answer wasn't accepted. He explained, “Chris knows what he did, which is why he went back. He threw in that article. He threw in the “A” in front of it, and we can’t accept it. Just the way it goes. It’s just one of the rules, and we gotta go by them, and Carol ends up getting the trip to Puerto Rico.”
Fans of the show took to social media to share their disappointment. One fan tweeted, “I genuinely feel bad for this guy,” and another complained about the rule, tweeting, “I say once again, #WheelOfFortune does not need to be like this.” Another viewed wondered, “I thought they could correct themselves before the buzzer," but another one explained that “The rule, I believe, is they can correct themselves as long as they haven’t finished the last word in the puzzle. He did it after he finished ‘concoction’.”
- Even though he didn't get the vacation, Davidson made it to the bonus round. He walked way with $13,900 in winnings.
