April Fool’s Day is traditionally the day where pranksters offer up their best ruses. This past Friday, that wacky “you’re fired” joke backfired big time on one short-sighted boss. After being told they were fired first thing in the morning, a worker spent the next two hours cleaning out their desk and deleting client information. Then, three hours later, the boss called saying, “Where are you? I can’t find you in the office?” After being told it was a “joke” and to “get back in here,” the former worker said that they’d be “taking unemployment for a few months, and filing a complaint with HR.” Since that all went down, a few other employees walked out after being yelled at by the same boss, the poster received 72 text messages and 13 voicemails from his him, the boss was put on leave and then relieved of his position, and the worker was “re-hired,” placed on a different team, given a $5.15/hour raise, and four bonus weeks of vacation. Know your audience, people.
