NASA To Hit Asteroid With Spacecraft On Monday

NASA says it's just days away from smashing a spacecraft into an asteroid seven-million miles from Earth. The space agency's Double Asteroid Redirection Test, known as DART, will slam into the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos on Monday, if all goes according to plan. The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is managing the first attempt to learn whether it's possible to alter the course of an asteroid and maybe save human civilization one day. DART team members said during a media briefing yesterday they're confident the mission that's been planned for years will be successful. The DART mission launched on top of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket last November.
