Study Says: Marriage Lowers Women’s Risk Of Death Even If They Get Divorced

A new study published in Global Epidemiology found that getting married reduces the death rate for females by a third…and it doesn’t matter if they stay married. The study looked at 11,830 American female nurses over a 25-year period and showed that the women who married during that time had a 35% lower risk of death.

That’s not all. The study also showed that women who had married had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, less depression and loneliness, more optimism, and a greater sense of purpose. While those who divorced did see a higher risk of death than those that stayed married, the divorcees still had a lower risk than those that stayed single.
