The Army is hoping to put a stop to a 40 year tradition at Savannah, Georgia’s St. Patrick’s Day parade that allows patrons to kiss the cheeks of soldiers. Towards the end of the parade, women traditionally put on red lipstick and as the soldiers come around, they plant a smooch all over their faces. Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson says, “It’s hard to look professional as a soldier with red lipstick on your cheeks. Red lipstick is not part of the uniform.” Though the Army isn’t giving penalties, they’re hoping the crowd will be able to control themselves.
