You have to appreciate American ingenuity - when we want something done, we'll do it ourselves.
Meet Eric White, owner of the Big Indian Smoke Shop on the Cattaraugus Reservation in New York. He wanted to make sure that people could easily get to his place – and took matters into his own hands – by building a highway off-ramp that leads directly to his shop.
And yes, such a thing normally requires the Federal Highway Administration’s approval, but reports say the rules might be different on tribal land (though not likely). Buuuut, there’s a rub. Turns out, that the construction may be in retaliation for a judge ruling that Eric owes $2.4-million after selling untaxed cigarettes in 2012.
Eric’s attorney Paul Cambria plans to appeal the judge’s decision and doesn’t believe Eric is in violation of state or federal laws by building the ramp.
