Disney's film production chief says he will not be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, who he has played since 2003, because the company wants to bring a new energy to the film franchise. The final Depp version tanked last year, with both to critics and audiences panning it.
Depp recently revealed in an interview with GQ that film producers used to hate the way he portrayed the character. The last Pirates movie he was in was 2017's “Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
