Christmas came early for a teen living with a heart defect who needed a life-saving organ transplant. Marquis Davis recently received a new heart and kidney after one year and four months of waiting.
The 17-year-old was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and had open heart surgery at just five days old and his first heart transplant when he was three. But his body began rejecting the heart and one of his kidneys was failing as a result of transplant medications over time. After a successful 17-hour surgery, Marquis is recovering at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio and is expected to be released in February.
“He’s a fighter,” says his mom,Sherri Withrow. “He never shows signs of giving up.”
