Virginia Passes Law Allowing Schools To Involve Police In Student Matters

Lawmakers in Virginia have passed a bill regarding the school discipline that is not sitting well with some parents.

Delegate Michael Mullin introduced the bill that would allow schools to determine whether to report certain misdemeanors to the police. He says he proposed the bill because Virginia sends more children of color and disabled children into the criminal justice system than any other state.

He went on to say the children need help, not to be sent to jail. Republicans are arguing that the bill doesn't offer enough protection. The bill is currently awaiting a signature from Governor Ralph Northam.
