A Coast Guard crew rescues a dog from the water off the North Carolina coast. Last week, a U.S. Coast Guard crew was patrolling the sound between the shore and North Carolina’s Outer Banks when they heard a call over their radio that some boaters had lost their dog, Myla.
Moments later, lookouts on the Coast Guard boat spotted a dog swimming toward their vessel. “The crew made way towards the distressed dog and hauled Myla on board.” U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet later posted on Facebook. “After a quick inspection to ensure no injuries, the exhausted pup was given VIP treatment by the crew and was eventually reunited with its owners.”
It turns out, Myla’s a pretty lucky pup, because Pamlico Sound where she was picked up is no small body of water, measuring nearly 100 miles long and up to 25 miles wide at places. It’s not clear how long Myla was lost at sea, but the Coast Guard went on to say, “We want to congratulate Myla on being a good girl and an amazing doggie swimmer!”
