A new content rating system is coming to TikTok.
The popular app announced the change yesterday in an effort to prevent young users from seeing inappropriate videos. TikTok says the ratings will use an "approach unique to TikTok" and will flag content that contains "mature or complex themes" and give it a "maturity score."
It will affect what is seen on the “For You” page.
The rating will be used to determine if users under the age of 18 can view the video in their feed. TikTok faced criticism last year from the European Consumer Organization who alleged the app failed to protect its young users from "potentially harmful" videos.
