How To Use Up Your Pandemic Supply Of Hand Sanitizer

A few short years ago, most people kept a bottle of hand sanitizer around, but they didn’t think much about it. And then the pandemic hit and suddenly hand sanitizer became one of the hottest commodities around, along with toilet paper and antibacterial wipes.

When we could find these must-have items in the store, we stocked up on them and sometimes even shared the bounty with our loved ones in need. Then, as time went on, we needed less and less of the once-precious hand sanitizer and now some of us are sitting on more bottles of it than we know what to do with.

Donating it to a school, a shelter or the fire or police department is always a good option, but you can also use it at home in more ways than just wiping your hands:

  • Clean your computer keyboard - Get a glob and use it to sanitize your dusty, crumb-loaded keyboard. You know it needs it.
  • Synthetic makeup brushes - Use it to clean your makeup brushes, but only the man made ones. Squirt a little sanitizer on the synthetic brushes and rub it in to get all the bristles clean. Then simply rinse them with water and let them air dry.
  • Erase permanent marker - If you accidentally use a Sharpie on the whiteboard, don’t worry, hand sanitizer will make it disappear. You can also use it to clean the whiteboard by applying the sanitizer directly to the whiteboard, then using a clean cloth or paper towel to wipe the surface off.
  • Tarnish remover - Have some silver you’ve been putting off cleaning? You can use hand sanitizer to get that tarnish off. Just put a few drops on a cloth, then wipe away the tarnish and be sure to use one that’s aloe-free.
  • Deodorant - This one isn’t ideal, but in a pinch it’ll work. If you’re not smelling so fresh and don’t have access to deodorant, put a dab of hand sanitizer in your pits. It kills bacteria, including the stuff that causes odor.
  • You can also use it to take off Band-Aids, remove labels from glass and to get the goo off your flat iron.
