Vince Gill To Be Honored With “CMT Giants” Special

Vince Gill is set to be honored by his peers. The singer will be the subject of the next installment of “CMT Giants,” an all-new 90-minute special airing September 16th at 9 pm ET.

Stars on board to help celebrate Vince include Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Rodney Crowell and Sting.

“From his timeless song catalog, numerous awards and unmatched musicianship, to the respect and camaraderie cultivated among his fellow musicians, and of course, his signature sense of humor, we can all agree Vince is a true titan in country music,” Margaret Comeaux, CMT’s Senior Vice President of Production, Music & Events, shares. “He is a true ‘artist’s artist’ who has touched fans worldwide with his music and songwriting, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bestow him with our most esteemed ‘CMT Giants’ distinction.”

ONE MORE THING! Vince just wrapped up four-night residency at the Ryman Auditorium, and at the kickoff he played a four-hour show, performing more than 30 songs. During the show he paid an emotional tribute to his wife Amy Grant, who, as we told you, was recently injured in a biking accident. “My bride Amy is doing fine,” he told the audience. “She had a bicycle wreck last Wednesday over in Percy Warner Park and thank God she was wearing her helmet. She was knocked unconscious for 10 or 15 minutes.”

Vince and his daughter Corrina then paid tribute to Amy in song, performing "When My Amy Prays.” At one point Corrina, who was visibly emotional during the song, changed the words to “When My Mama Prays.” Vince also performed “Whenever You Come Around,” noting it was “My favorite song to sing about my favorite girl.”
