While some dogs love to hop on into the car, others get very stressed out in vehicles, which can become an issue if you want to take the whole family, including your furbabies, on a road trip. But it turns out, there’s an easy way to relieve your dog’s stress in the car, and all it takes is a little music.

  • According to a recent survey two in three dog owners have dogs who get stressed out in the car.
  • That’s particularly bad for 75% of people who plan to take their pet with them on their vacation, with 72% taking these trips by car.
  • But according to Sam Sutton, senior lecturer of music at the University of West London, the right music can go a long way towards easing your dog’s stress.
  • He came out with what he calls the perfect playlist to help soothe your dog’s nerves, noting, “reggae and soft rock appear to have been the canine tunes of choice.”
  • The top songs to play to calm your dog while traveling include:
    • “How Deep Is Your Love” – Bee Gees
    • “No Woman No Cry” – Bob Marley
    • “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” – Bryan Adams
    • “I Want to Know What Love Is” – Foreigner
    • “Dark Side of The Moon” – Pink Floyd
    • “One In 10” – UB40
    • “Hounds of Love” – Kate Bush
    • “Desperado” – The Eagles
    • “Many Rivers to Cross” – Jimmy Cliff
    • “Love is King” – Sade
  • Sutton also notes songs that should be avoided include:
    • AC/DC’s “Back In Black”
    • Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”
    • Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.”
