Friends and family of 87-year-old Marina Smith got a surprise at her funeral. Thanks to an AI tool called StoryFile, built by her son’s company, funeral attendees were able to have a conversation with Smith and ask questions; before she died, her son recorded hours’ worth of footage of his mother talking about her life.
The tech created a digital clone of Smith that gave the illusion of a real-time conversation with her through a hologram. StoryFile has been available in the US since last year, with prices for the service starting at $49.
