National Chop Suey Day

(Undated) -- Chopsticks could come in handy today. It's National Chop Suey Day. It's a flavorful dish that no one seems to be able to agree on where it comes from. Food historian Alan Davidson sums it up as the perfect example of "culinary mythology." There are some that believe it hails from China's Guangdong Province. Others believe its roots lie with Chinese immigrants to America. There's even a specific tale about a Chinese restaurant cook in San Francisco possibly creating the dish back in the 1860s as a means to avoid a fight with drunken miners who came in after hours.
