Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com, which hired Matt Damon as a spokesperson for a Super Bowl commercial last year, says a typo in a $100 refund to an Australian woman meant she was “erroneously transferred” $10,474,143 by mistake. The company says the woman split the money among six people including her daughter and sister.
The company didn’t catch the mistake for seven months, and now they’re trying to get the money back with a court filing. The woman used some of the money to buy a $1.35M home for her sister; the court ordered the defendants to repay all of the money plus interest, but the company is unsurprisingly having trouble contacting most of them.
