Thanksgiving is right around the corner and families are feeling the pinch at the grocery store. In fact, rising prices could make it cheaper to dine out this year. That’s because grocery prices are about 12% higher than they were this time last year – and that’s not even including staples like turkey, eggs, bread and butter – they’re up even more. Turkey’s clocked at 17% higher – thanks to avian flu and inflation… Eggs are up 43%, butter is nearly 34% higher and flour is up about 25%. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of dining out rose just 8.6% over the last year, while the cost of eating at home jumped 12.4% over the same period. As Brad Rubin, sector analyst in Wells Fargo’s food and agribusiness industry advisory group, notes: “What is considered a luxury experience is more of a value experience this year.”
