6 Foods That We Lost In 2022

Whether from lack of sales or too much familiarity, several companies discontinued some menu items during 2022 to the dismay of some customers. Here is a list of 6 that CNN Business compiled that we lost during the 2022 year.

  • Burger King’s Ch’King – this was BK’s version of a fried chicken sandwich that showed up on menus in May of 2021, but 15 months later it was a goner. According to Tom Curtis, President of Burger King North America it “was a great product that was difficult or challenging for teams to execute on” and it was a huge problem for employees to assemble the sandwich. It was replaced on menus with the Royal Crispy Chicken Sandwich.
  • Chili’s Original Chicken Tenders – the original recipe chicken tenders first showed up on Chili’s menu in the 1980s but were discontinued in the fall of 2022 and fans were furious. The replacements are Crispy Chicken Crispers which are similar but crunchier and juicier.
  • Choco Taco – this taco-shaped cone from Klondike disappeared in July of 2022 after being available for almost 40 years. You may be seeing a return in the future because Klondike says, “We’ve heard our fans and we’re hoping to bring back this favorite treat back to ice cream trucks in the coming years.”
  • Honest Tea – these products from the Coca-Cola company had been on shelves for 25 years and after Coca-Cola acquired the brand in 2011 they decided to focus on Peace Tea and Gold Peak brands and dropped Honest Tea products in 2022.
  • McDonald’s McRib – back in October Mickey D’s said of the McRib “this could be your last chance to taste it.” The popular item first arrived in 1981 in Kansas City, pulled from menus 4 years later and became a cult favorite and available at all McDonald’s in 2020 but this cryptic statement may mean that we have seen the last of the McRib for good.
  • Wendy’s Vanilla Frosty – the vanilla frosty is not gone for good but Wendy’s is currently selling the peppermint frosty in its place, following a strawberry flavor in the summer of 2022. The company has teased the vanilla return saying that more Frosty flavors may be coming in 2023 so keep your eyes open.
