More Americans Believe Chocolate Milk Comes From Brown Cows Than You Think

The Innovation Center of US Dairy and Edelman Intelligence conducted a survey to find out how many Americans know where chocolate milk comes from. The study polled 1,000 adults from all 50 states and showed that 7% of adults think that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

That means that over 16 million American adults think chocolate milk is determined by the color of the cow it comes from, and not the addition of…well, chocolate. It may get worse; 48% of respondents in the survey said they have no idea where chocolate milk comes from, which means the study shows that over half of adults don’t know that you add chocolate to milk to get chocolate milk.

The survey is from 2017, but it’s getting attention on Twitter right now after the fact was used to argue that Americans aren’t “exceptional.”
