We expect airports to be bustling when we travel, but some of them take that hustle to the next level. If you’ve ever been to Atlanta's airport you know that first hand, and it’s been named the world’s busiest airport once again. The Airports Council International has just released its annual report on the top 10 busiest airports for passengers in 2022 and the U.S. is home to half of them.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has often claimed that title, it held it for 22 years until the pandemic hit and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China was the world’s busiest in 2020. But Atlanta reclaimed it in 2021 and has held onto it for 2022.
- In the latest ranking, five of the world’s busiest airports for passengers are in the U.S., down from eight in 2021.
- New to the overall top 10 for 2022 are Istanbul Airport at number seven and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India at number nine.
- No airports in China made the top 10 busiest list for the first time in many years.
