Airbnb Launched New Category For Private Rooms In Someone’s Home

If you’re looking for travel deals ahead of the busy summer season, Airbnb has a new budget-friendly option. They’re rolling out a category called Airbnb Rooms that allows guests to rent a private room in the same home as their host. And price is its best feature, with an average nightly rate of $67.

Single room rentals aren’t new for Airbnb, they’ve always listed rooms in houses and apartments, but the company says the listings in Airbnb Rooms will include a Host Passport, which provides guests with extra information about who they’ll be staying with. Users will be able to see details like what the hosts do for work and where they went to school, if the host chooses to include it. The listings in the new category will also “clearly indicate” whether bedroom doors have a lock and whether the bathrooms are shared or private.

“With Airbnb Rooms, we’re getting back to the idea that started it all – back to our founding ethos of sharing,” Brian Chesky, Airbnb’s co-founder and CEO, says in a news release. “Airbnb Rooms are often more affordable than hotels, and they’re the most authentic way to experience a city. This is the soul of Airbnb.”

  • In addition to the new category, Airbnb also added more than 50 new features and upgrades based on guest feedback.
  • You will now be able to see the full price with any fees - before taxes - including in search results, on listing pages and in maps.
  • Users will also be able to see checkout instructions before they book and will get a reminder before the end of their stay.
  • Airbnb also says listings with “repeated low ratings from unreasonable chores” will be taken off the platform.
