The holidays can be really stressful, but for some folks, it’s not the chaos of shopping, wrapping and decorating that gets to them, it’s the food. A new survey suggests that traditional Christmas dinner is a source of stress for many people across the country.
According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults:
- Nearly four in 10 (38%) say they’re the most creative with their dishes during the holiday season.
- But 44% find the food aspect of Christmas Day is the most stressful of any national holiday.
- While 16% say the best thing about the holiday season is the preparation of the Christmas Day dinner, 54% admit they feel uptight any time they think about prepping or cooking food for this or any other holiday celebration.
- Americans start cooking Christmas dinner at 9:36 a.m., on average, and it takes just over three hours to make the entire thing.
- Overall, people feel the best time to eat on Christmas is at 3:45 p.m.
- After that meal, they spend an average of three days eating leftovers.
- Despite all the stress, Christmas is the favorite holiday for 49% of respondents, who love spending time with family (35%), exchanging gifts (28%), and enjoy decorating the Christmas tree (23%).
- Thanksgiving is the second favorite holiday (20%), followed by New Year’s (7%), Halloween (6%), and Independence Day (4%).
- Christmas is also the favorite holiday for decorating (64%), with Halloween coming in at number two (19%).
