New images from NASA are showing that the land major east coast cities are built on is sinking. Areas from New England to Florida were surveyed using satellite data and ground-based GPS centers to map the motion. According to the data, major cities New York City, Baltimore and Norfolk, Virginia are built on land that sank between 2007 and 2020. The land sank by an average of one to two millimeters per year but in some counties in Delaware, Maryland, Georgia and South Carolina saw their land sink twice or three times as fast. Coupled with rising sea levels, the research is disturbing.
