Report: Airlines Raked In $30-Billion In Baggage Fees Last Year

If you think airlines are making big bucks from your carry-on and checked bags, you’re right. A new study says the top 20 airlines made over $30-billion from baggage fees last year. Consulting firm IdeaWorks says the top airlines around the world raked in billions from fees for carry-on bags, price hikes for checked luggage, and fines for overweight suitcases. The study says the amount was up from $29-billion in 2022, and accounted for about four-percent of global airline revenue last year. The fees started as a “Necessity” to recover from the 2000s recession. American Airlines just raised their baggage fees this month.
