A 17th-century painting, which was priced at $14-thousand two years ago has sold at a Sotheby’s auction for an eye-popping $14-million. The oil painting named “The Adoration of The Kings” was attributed by the famed Christie’s auction house to have been painted by one of Rembrandt's peers. However, Sotheby's says the work is a real Rembrandt which pushed the price up into the millions.
So, how the heck do they know it’s the real deal? Experts figured it out with the help of infrared imaging and the help of Dutch Masters scholars. However, some are still unconvinced they're dealing with the real deal. Expert Jorgen Wadum wrote a letter to Sotheby's on the day of the sale saying, “If you bought the painting on the basis of what Sotheby' stated, you would simply be cheated.”
