And The Oscar Winners Are...

Another Oscars is in the books! This was the first Oscars ceremony since the strikes in Hollywood last year, and Jimmy Kimmel made sure to remind the world that writers, actors, and a ton of other people in Hollywood, banded together to get a solid deal. He also poked fun at “Madame Web” bombing at the box office, the fact that Greta Gerwig didn’t get a Best Director nomination for “Barbie,” and made another joke about how movies are just too long these days…at least according to him.

“Oppenheimer” was the big winner of the night, taking home seven awards. It won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor for starters. It gave Robert Downey Jr. and Christopher Nolan their first ever Oscars as well! “Poor Things” followed with four awards, including Emma Stone taking home the prize for Best Actress.

There were also a ton of big performances last night, highlighting this year’s Best Song nominees including from Ryan Gosling, Billie Eilish, Becky G.

The night was filled with big wins and big moments, right from the opening monologue. We made sure to break it all down below:

• Jimmy Kimmel used his opening monologue to thank the people in the industry who stand behind the cameras but still stood on the picket line with actors and writers last year. He even brought below-the-line crew members onto stage to take a bow. “The reason we were able to make a deal is because of the people who rallied around and beside us…the teamsters, the truck drivers, sound engineers, gaffers, grips, all of the crew,” he told the crowd, who applauded them.
• Don’t worry dog lovers. After a bit of controversy about whether he should be allowed to attend or not, Messi the dog, from “Anatomy Of A Fall,” was at the Oscars! He even clapped during the show. Apparently some people had complained that Messi attending the Oscars luncheon wasn’t fair, because he was so cute people would want to vote for “Anatomy Of A Fall” to win more awards...so it looked like he wouldn't come to the award ceremony for a while.
• Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt got a few more jokes in about Barbenheimer while they presented a special tribute to stunt performers. “The way this award season has turned out, it wasn’t that much of a rivalry. Just let it go!,” Blunt joked. Gosling hit back, though. “I think I kind of figured out why it’s called ‘Barbenheimer’ and not ‘Oppenarbie.’ You’re on the tail end because you rode ‘Barbie’s’ coattails all summer,” Gosling joked.
• John Cena presented the award for Costume Design…and he was completely naked for it, highlighting the need for costumes. Don’t worry, he hid behind a big envelope while on stage. “Costumes…may be the most important thing there is,” Cena joked.
• Robert Downey Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in “Oppenheimer.” This is the actor’s first ever Oscar! “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy — in that order,” Downey joked in his acceptance speech. He also thanked his wife, who “found me a snarling rescue pet and…loved me back to life.”
• Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in “The Holdovers.” She thanked her mom for pushing her to be an actress in her acceptance speech. “I always wanted to be different. Now I realize I just need to be myself…I pray to God I get to do this more than once.”
• Christopher Nolan also won his first Oscar! He won the award for Best Director, for the big movie of the night, “Oppenheimer.” He would go on to win his second award shortly after…when “Oppenheimer” also won the biggest award of the night, Best Picture! “Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me,” he said while accepting his directing win.
• “The Zone Of Interest” became the first British film to win the Oscar for International Feature
• Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito took the stage 36 years after starring together in ”Twins.” But instead of talking about their hit comedy…they took the time to remind the audience they both tried to kill Batman back in the day, and then razz former-Batman Michael Keaton! “You have a lot of nerve to show you face around here,” Arnold told Michael.
• The “Godzilla Minus One” team won the award for Best Visual Effects. It is the first Japanese film to win that specific award. But maybe more importantly…the team showed up holding their own personal Godzillas, and wearing Godzilla-themed shoes as well!
• The In Memoriam section honored Alexei Navalny, Alan Arkin, Andre Braugher, Richard Roundtree, Ryan O’Neal, Cynthia Weil, Bill Lee, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robbie Robertson, Richard Lewis, Carl Weathers, Tina Turner, and many more.
• Ryan Gosling performed “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie,” with the help of Slash. He got the crowd involved as well, getting everyone from Greta Gerwig to Emma Stone to sing a few lines from the energetic song.
• Billie Eilish and Finneas performed another “Barbie” hit, “What Was I Made For?” The song won the award for Best Original Song last night by the way…making Billie the youngest two-time winner in Academy Awards history.
• Becky G showed off with a rousing take on “The Fire Inside,” from ”Flamin’ Hot.” She was joined by ten dancers in white shirts and red pants to sing along with her…along with a 12-woman choir, and an orchestra. Not to mention the flames and smoke behind her!
• Jon Batiste performed “It Never Went Away” from ”American Symphony”
• Scott George and the Osage Singers performed “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from ”Killers of the Flower Moon”
