House Republicans are moving forward with a vote on a bill that would effectively ban TikTok in the U.S. A vote on the measure is now scheduled for today. There are two hurdles for the bill: progressives who use the platform and, in the Senate, Rand Paul. He says “I don’t think Congress should be trying to take away the First Amendment rights of [170] million Americans.” The measure would require the app's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell to an American owner in an attempt to address national security concerns. TikTok is posting a message urging users to call their House representative about the bill.
