Choosing a name for your dog is one of the first things you do as a new pet parent, and it’s a pretty big decision. People get inspiration from everything from pop culture icons to food to TV shows for their pup’s name, and some names end up being used a lot more than others.
- In honor of National Puppy Day (March 23rd), a new report reveals the most popular dog names in the country.
- Camp Bow Wow, a doggy daycare provider, analyzed their database of more than 300-thousand canine campers who stayed there last year to find the top 10 names.
- Luna comes in first for the third year in a row, and it’s the number one dog name in 27 states.
- Kentucky is the only state that’s most popular name isn’t on the overall top 10 - Winston.
- Some of the more original names Camp Bow Wow has seen in campers include “Maxilicious BerryCrunch Master Cylinder III,” “Nyx the Primordial Goddess of the Night” and “Miss California Pumpkin, AKA Callie.”
- Pop culture names are always popular, this year that includes Maverick, from “Tom Gun,” which had the highest year-over-year increase, while Goose had the third.
- The doggy day care expects to see an increase in names like Loki, Greta, Rocket and Barbie in the future.
- Food inspired names, like Peanut, Olive and Biscuit are also common.
