A two-pound object recently crashed through a house in Naples, Florida, and experts have decided that may have been a piece of a battery pallet that was tossed off the International Space Station in 2021. Homeowner Alejandro Otero was on vacation when his son called, saying something had crashed through the house and almost hit him.
The object will be analyzed by NASA at the Kennedy Space Center, and if they decide it’s a piece from their equipment, the agency will be responsible for the damages. Astronomers reportedly wrongly estimated when and where any debris from the pallet would enter the atmosphere, and it could have been worse. According to NASA, if it had come down “a couple minutes later,” it would have reached Ft. Myers.
