Consumer Reports Finds High Levels Of Sodium And Lead In Some Lunchables

There's a push to kick Lunchables off school menus. Consumer Reports issued a warning yesterday saying the school cafeteria version of the popular lunch snack contains too much sodium and concerning amounts of lead. Last year, Lunchables developed two new versions of the cheese, meat and cracker snacks especially for school lunch programs. Consumer Reports says the turkey and cheddar school-lunch versions contained nearly 200 more milligrams of sodium than the store-bought Lunchables. Five of 12 tested products would expose someone to 50-percent or more of California's maximum allowable amount of lead. The nonprofit group says it's petitioning the USDA to remove the snacks from school cafeterias.
