USPS Wants To Raise Stamp Prices Again

Pending approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Postal Service is planning to hike the price of First-Class "Forever" stamps again this July. The adjustment, which will raise First-Class stamps from 68 cents to 73 cents, comes on the heels of a 2-cent hike in January after a 3-cent hike last summer, is part of a series of price increases aimed at stabilizing the financial footing as outlined in the USPS's 10-year plan to modernize and improve the agency's competitiveness. In addition to the increase in First-Class mail, domestic and international postcard rates are also set to rise. These measures come as USPS confronts a decline in traditional mail volume due to the rise of online communication, and will help to make a dent in the $6.3-billion loss projected for 2024.
