Volusia County, Florida Is Named Shark Bite Capital Of The World

Florida's Volusia County has the unenviable distinction of Shark Bite Capital of the World. That's according to the Florida Museum, which maintains the international shark attack file. The museum says last year, there were eight shark bites, which was half the total in the entire state. None of the bites turned out to be fatal. The most active time for sharks there is September afternoons. The United States led the world with the number of shark bites at 36, with two of them fatal. Just the other day, beaches in Del Mar, California near San Diego, were forced to close after a 46-year-old man was attacked by a shark on Sunday morning.
