For a limited time, the U.S. State Department is allowing online passport renewals through a beta program so they can monitor and make adjustments based on performance and user feedback. The system is only available for a limited time each day, plus there’s a limit to the number of daily applications accepted, and users have to meet certain criteria like being 25-years-old and having a current or recently-expired passport. Users also can’t be traveling out of the country in the next couple of months because the turnaround is not any quicker than the mail-in process and expedited processing isn’t an option.
