New research finds that mental well-being is a major factor in staying healthy as we age. Activities that improve mental well-being, like eating cheese and fruit, and being physically active, may contribute to healthier aging. The study, which analyzed genetic data from large datasets, finds that better mental well-being is associated with improved resilience, self-rated health, and longevity. Factors like lack of activity, smoking, and excessive TV watching were linked to poorer well-being, while cheese and fruit consumption were linked to better well-being.
