The beach can be dangerous, but usually not this way. A Chinese woman went for a swim off a Japanese beach and was swept away. The woman said there was little she could do since she was swimming in a rubber ring, which experts say made it more difficult to move against the wind to make it back to shore.
She was finally spotted by a cargo ship…36 hours later and 50 miles away, bobbing up and down on waves over six feet tall. Aside from being exhausted and dehydrated, she didn’t need any medical care. She was luckier than you might think; the director of the Japan Water Safety Society, said that the area where she was found is a high-traffic area, and said “It is a miracle that she was not hit by a ship.”
