Disney had its annual “D23” event this weekend…and it was packed with reveals, first looks, and even a few trailers. There was a ton of stuff for both movies and TV…and we’ve got the whole breakdown.
First…let’s take a look at what Disney revealed for its upcoming movies:
- “Mufasa: The Lion King” - Disney showed off the trailer for the upcoming prequel movie. The film will follow the story of an orphaned lion cub Mufasa…who is befriended by a young prince Scar and adopted by his family. It hits theaters December 20th.
- “Snow White” - The debut trailer showed off our first look at Rachel Zegler as the titular Disney princess, as well as Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. It also gave us our first taste of Rachel singing “Whistle While You Work” from the 1937 classic animated film. It hits theaters March 2025.
- “Moana 2” - the trailer for the sequel was released! It will feature an “expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers.” Moana, and friends, will journey into “dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced”
- “Freakier Friday” - the sequel to the hit bodyswap comedy got its title, as confirmed by Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis shouting it out into the “D23” crowd! The movie is set to come out in 2025.
- “Tron: Ares” - It was revealed that the upcoming sequel, starring Jared Leto, Evan Peters, and Greta Lee, will be scored by Nine Inch Nails! The movie is set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
- “Fantastic Four” - the “D23” crowd got an almost-first look at the upcoming superhero movie. The footage shown to the crowd was previously seen at “Comic-Con.” Its set to come out on July 25, 2025.
- “Captain America: Brave New World” the “D23” crowd got an almost-first look at the upcoming superhero movie. The footage shown to the crowd was also previously seen at “Comic-Con.” Its set to come out on February 14, 2025.
- “The Mandalorian & Grogu” - Director Jon Favreau revealed they had just started filming the “Star Wars” movie a few weeks ago. They also showed off some footage to the “D23” crowd, which included Snowtroopers AT-AT Walkers. It’s set to come out in 2026.
- ”Frozen 3” - It was announced it will come out in 2027
- “Zootopia 2” - Ke Huy Quan is joining the sequel as a “creepy, highly venomous viper”…Gary
- “Incredibles 3” - The sequel was announce, with Brad Bird developing it
- “Hoppers” - Jon Hamm and Bobby Moynihan are going to star in this movie about…a beaver and a human swapping bodies
- “Toy Story 5” - It was revealed the Toys may have met their greatest foe yet…iPads and smartphones
- “Avatar: Fire and Ash” - the third movie in the “Avatar” franchise is officially titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash”
- “Monster Jam” - Not a lot was revealed about this…except that it will involve Dwayne Johnson and monster trucks
Now let’s dive in to everything Disney showed off for their streaming service, Disney+:
- “Agatha All Along” - The Marvel series about the evil with Agatha Harkness, last seen in 2021’s “Wandavision,” got a trailer! It confirmed that Agatha is putting together a coven and is trying to get her powers back..and that the series will premiere on September 18th!
- “Daredevil: Born Again” - Kevin Feige confirmed that the first series will come out in March 2025…and that they’re about to start shooting season two!
- “Ironheart” - the show is still in development after being announced back in 2022. “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler appeared on stage this year, who teased “I always knew she had more to her story.” The show will follow Riri Williams, an Iron-Man-like superhero who first appeared in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
- “Andor” - Season two of the “Star Wars” showed off two fan-favorite actors back in action…with Ben Mendelsohn returning as the evil Krennic, and Alan Tudyk back as the sometimes-helpful droid K-2S0
- “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” - The “Star Wars” series got a trailer. It will tell a coming-of-age story about a group of kids who get lost in the galaxy and go on an adventure trying to get back home. It also…stars Jude Law! And has a trailer!
- “Inside Out” - a TV spinoff, “Dream Productions,” has been announced!
