A New L.A. Costco Has Apartments Upstairs & A Rooftop Pool

A new development in South Los Angeles will feature a 185-thousand-square-foot Costco alongside 800 residential apartments, including 184 units designated for low-income tenants. The project was made possible by a new California law that allows commercial developments with affordable housing to bypass certain environmental regulations. The complex will offer amenities like a rooftop pool and is sparking mixed reactions, with one critic calling it a “Costco prison” and others expressing enthusiasm over the project and already planning their early morning Costco bakery runs. Crews broke ground on the one-of-a-kind project earlier this week and it’s expected to take about two and a half years to complete.
