90% Of Americans Believe In Love At First Sight … With Their Pets

Do you believe in “love at first sight?” That’s what a new survey asked 2-thousand dog owners who are in serious relationships and it turns out, a lot of them do. Nearly nine in 10 (87%) say they believe in love at first sight with animals, while only 62% say the same about people.

The poll of coupled-up dog owners also reveals:

  • More dog owners had an “instant connection” with their pup than with their partner. While 80% felt an immediate connection with their dog, only 69% had it with their partner.
  • But it doesn’t happen that fast for everyone, 19% admit it took a while to build a bond with their dog, leading 20% of them to question whether they made the right choice by adopting their pet.
  • For three-quarters (74%) of them the wait was worth it, they feel their bond with their dog is stronger because they had to build it over time.
  • Some pets are pretty pampered, as more than half of respondents (53%) say they feed their dog better than they feed themselves.
  • While having a dog can be challenging at times, 83% feel the pet ownership experience is even better than they expected.
  • And the same number of people say that even though it’s messy and not always easy, they wouldn’t change anything about their experience with their dog.

What pet owners wish they knew before adopting their dog:

  • “I wish I had known about his ‘taste’ in furniture”
  • “How much love he has to give and how easy he was to train”
  • “That she would be jealous of me and my husband, lol”
  • “That it feels like watching a child grow up, but you know you’re going to outlive them”
  • “I should have brought two home and not just one, so he’d always have a buddy”
  • “The amount of joy they bring, I would have gotten one sooner.”
