A new survey is reminding us that sometimes it really is the little things in life that make us happy. Yesterday was National Coffee Day and our love of the beverage is obvious in the list of the top “simple joys” in life.
So, what are Americans’ favorite “simple joys?” According to the poll of 2-thousand Americans, they are:
- Waking up after a good night’s sleep — 48%
- Catching up with an old friend or loved one — 45%
- A cup of coffee — 44%
- Watching their favorite show — 43%
- The smell of freshly brewed coffee — 42%
- Hearing their favorite song comes on the radio — 41%
- The smell of freshly baked cookies — 41%
- Having someone say they were thinking about you — 39%
- Waking up to the sun shining — 38%
- Listening to the rain while sitting inside with a warm drink — 37%
The poll also digs into why coffee rates so highly with those little joys:
- Two-thirds of respondents say that they’re focused on creating real connections with people in their lives now more than ever and 64% say coffee helps create those connections.
- Nearly half of those polled (47%) say there’s a nostalgic element to coffee, like reminding them of being with family as a child while their parents and grandparents drank coffee and talked.
- For 70%, some coffee is better than no coffee, even if it’s not their ideal cup.
- Among coffee drinkers, their favorite types are brewed or drip coffee (48%), cappuccinos (30%), iced coffees (23%), lattes (22%) and mochas (22%).
