Hurricane Helene Reaches A Sad Milestone

Hurricane Helene is now the deadliest storm to hit the mainland U.S. since Hurricane Katrina. Officials say at least 215 people have died due to the storm that slammed the Southeast a week ago. More than half of the deaths were in North Carolina, including dozens in Buncombe [[ BUNK-um ]] County alone where flooding has devastated the area. The death toll will likely continue to go up as hundreds remain missing. Helene is the third-deadliest of the 21st century, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (1,392 deaths) and Hurricane Maria in 2017 (at least 2,975 deaths).
