Mars Wrigley Is The Latest Company To Ditch Synthetic Food Dyes

Mars Wrigley is introducing candy without synthetic dyes next year. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has set out to get companies to drop artificial food dyes by 2027, and Mars was a holdout until now. Starting in 2026, popular treats like Skittles, M&M’s, Starburst, and Extra Gum will have options available made without artificial colors and they'll be available to purchase online throughout the U.S. Several food manufacturers, including General Mills, Pepsico, Tyson Foods, Hershey and more, have already announced plans to ditch synthetic colors. Some studies have shown certain synthetic food dyes, such as Red No. 3 and Red No. 40, are carcinogenic in animals.
