As the year finally starts to wind down, Google is looking back at all the things we looked up during 2025. Their Year in Search trends report has just come out, based on their data from January 1st to November 25th. The tech company explains that it “compiles the moments, people, topics, events and places that captured the world’s attention this year.”
- Google clarifies that these lists are of trending topics, not the most searched topics by number of searches. They explain, “By looking at top trending searches, we’re identifying topics that saw huge spikes in 2025,which means they’re unique to this year compared to last year.”
- On Google, you can narrow the results to show them by country or city or look at global results. We’re focusing only on results in the U.S.
- The top trending actor search was for Pedro Pascal, followed by Maachi Barton and Walton Goggins.
- The top three trending athletes in the U.S. this year are Sedeur Sanders, Terrance Crawford and Cooper Flagg.
- The top five trending movies of 2025 are “KPop Demon Hunters,” “Sinners,” “The Minecraft Movie,” “Happy Gilmore 2” and Thunderbolts*”
- 2025’s top five trending TV shows are “The Hunting Wives,” “The White Lotus,” “The Pitt,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “Squid Game.”
