Megan Moroney's Humor Is 'Slightly Unhinged' In 'Gloriously Punchy Anthem'

Megan Moroney debuted a dance-worthy, starry-eyed bonus anthem to add to her Cloud 9 era.

Sorry… I Meant Tonight (Bonus)” is the 16th track on Moroney’s highly-anticipated third studio record. Moroney wrote the newest addition to the project with Luke Laird and Jessie Jo Dillon, capturing her signature humor and cleverness in the lyrics. It’s a “gloriously punchy anthem (that) fully captures the rush of an instant crush, where attraction, fantasy, and nerves all collide to dizzying effect. … ‘Sorry…I Meant Tonight (Bonus)’ strikes a fantastic balance of self-aware humor and slightly unhinged projection — a dynamic perfectly encapsulated at its breezy but breathless chorus.”

Moroney’s bonus track joins “Cloud 9,” “Medicine,” “6 Months Later,” “Beautiful Things,” “Wedding Dress,” “Wish I Didn’t,” “Who Hurt You?,” and other fan-favorite highlights from her newest studio album. She announced earlier this week that Cloud 9 “is not complete without a dance party ending.”

Moroney wrote in a handwritten note to fans hours before Cloud 9’s debut that she “had the most fun I’ve ever had writing these songs/dreaming up this world and a majority of this album was created right in the midst of the ‘Am I Okay? Tour.’ The pure joy y’all brought me night after night resulted in so many of these songs and ideas so I can’t thank y’all enough for inspiring me. There’s a newfound confidence woven throughout Cloud 9 along with humor, honesty, heartbreak (duh), softness and love. It’s got everything I love about country music.”

The Emo Cowgirl is getting ready for her headlining “Cloud 9 Tour,” which is slated to kick off this spring at “top-tier arenas across the U.S.” See the full list of tour stops below.

“I am so excited for my fans and I to dive into this new world of Cloud 9 together,” Moroney said in a statement when she announced the album. “Similar to the first two albums [2023’s Lucky and 2024’s Am I Okay?], it’s all written about honest, personal experiences, but these songs were written by the strongest, most confident version of myself I’ve ever been. My feet feel firmly planted in my artistry and it was fun to play around sonically, while still sticking to my roots of what my fans and I love. Cloud 9 is a state of mind, and I have no doubt this will be the best chapter yet.”
