Study: The Jobs Most Vulnerable To AI

Worried AI is coming for your job? A lot of Americans are concerned about how artificial intelligence will affect their profession and new research from Tufts University has some answers. Their American AI Jobs Risk Index, which uses current occupational data to predict which jobs are most at risk of being taken over by AI, has just come out.

  • The report ranks occupations, industries and regions by vulnerability, “based on the most current understanding of AI’s evolving impact.”
  • One alarming finding in the research? More than 9-million U.S. jobs are “at risk of displacement in the next two to five years.”
  • Researchers analyzed nearly 800 jobs, assigning each an “exposure score” and ranking those most at risk of AI takeover.
  • According to the researchers, “The jobs of the future will be secured by those with a combination of subject-matter expertise, critical-thinking skills for human judgement and knowledge of AI and how to use it.”
  • The index shows that the jobs at highest risk of AI takeover are also some of the highest paid, while the workers least likely to lose jobs to AI are some of the lowest paid physical laborers.
