Kacey Musgraves Brings Signature Wit, Authenticity To 'Middle Of Nowhere'

Saddle up… Kacey Musgraves is bringing listeners on a journey to the Middle of Nowhere.

Musgraves, 37, amplifies her country roots with her highly-anticipated sixth studio record, which made its debut on Friday (May 1). The album includes the traditional-sounding title track, NSFW “Dry Spell,” “Loneliest Girl” (which premiered one day early on iHeartCountry), plus tracks that she played before they’d released during a surprise appearance at Coachella. The Golden Texas-born superstar teamed up with Gregory Alan Isakov, Billy Strings, Miranda Lambert (burying the hatchet after a years-long feud, and finding common ground via “Horses and Divorces”), and country legend Willie Nelson on collaborations featured throughout the album.

The record-breaking Grammy-winner puts a fresh spin on classic country sounds, while staying true to her signature humor, sharp-wittedness and honest vulnerability that longtime fans will instantly recognize (including those who have stuck around from her powerful Same Trailer Different Park debut).

Musgraves said in an interview with Variety earlier this week that a sign in her hometown reading, “Golden, Texas: Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere,” sparked the idea for the song that became the title track for KM6. “It made me laugh, and I was just like, OK, that’s obviously meant to be a little bit self-deprecating, but there was this quiet confidence about it that I really liked.” Musgraves said she allowed herself to feel a degree of “uncomfortability” in a chapter of her life while she worked on the record. She analyzed whether “home” is a specific location or a “feeling that you carry with you.” The result is a project that’s centered in the Texas-born artist’s modern-yet-classic country style.

Middle of Nowhere is Musgraves’ sixth studio effort, following 2024’s Deeper Well, 2021’s star-crossed, 2018’s Golden Hour, 2015’s Pageant Material and 2013’s Same Trailer Different Park. Musgraves is bringing her music on the road with her headlining “Middle of Nowhere Tour,” which kicks off on her 38th birthday on August 21. Special guests MidlandCarter FaithFlatland Cavalry and Charles Wesley Godwin will join Musgraves on select dates. Tickets to the tour will be available to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. local time on Friday, May 8. See the dates here.
